D I G I T A L > photography + video
Initiated by a history grounded in anthropology and visual culture, my work explores intersections between history, the body, translation, the world, and evolutionary processes of inventiveness. I am an abstract artist before anything else, translating subject matter and space into new fodder for ideas to spring forth. Whether photographic, drawing or in sculpture, the intention behind my studio practice is the framing of human particulars through formalist concerns.
Photographic realitities teeter and toggle between one state and another is where my investigations take flight. Formal in construction, my works make visible the interconnectedness between time and space as if warp and weft. Pictorial constructions present a visual slang of sorts stitched together and sourced from found realities of my discovery. My compositions are initiated by the documentation of juxtaposing paired opposites; palimpsest histories coupled with contemporaneous ones; textural density and spareness; found subjects that occupy vacant spaces; old akin to new; darkness against light; two dimensionality suspended in three dimensional space; tactility found within emptiness and high chromatic patterned surfaces that animate dusty ruins. In my work, the use of abstract modes of making solidifies the certainty of temporality, translation, and shift. The subject remains on the move and may unravel and reconstitute at any point. Awkward adjacent relationships afford the potentiality of alternative realities to always be considered.
One thing remains constant in all of my work - disparate ideas dissolve, assemble and resolve in my attempts to materialize alternatives of semiotics, mimesis and cerebral abstraction. I search for subject matter that has the ability to lay out the validity of my methodology offering a wide scope of reference and interpretations. This is true in my attempts of images presented in my digital folio herewith. In each compositional instance, I attempt to present an evolution of potentials that act as catalyst to kick start imaginations into new territory.
Collectively, my photographic compositions present images made from a busy mind and formalist eye, that continually fire synapses. To me, these pictures are portraits of the inventiveness of found potentials having endless interpretive possibilities. My work speaks to evolutionary processes as much as to revolutionary ones.
Nothing is ever permanent in these parts.
